What the Colour of Your Tree’s Leaves Can Tell You
Leaves often show the first visible signs that a tree is responding to stress. A change from strong, consistent colour to yellow, pale, dull, or patchy growth can indicate that the tree is no longer receiving what it needs evenly across the canopy. These changes may appear before thinning foliage, branch dieback, or other more obvious symptoms.
Tree leaves changing colour does not always mean the tree is in serious decline. Seasonal shifts, new growth, heat, moisture changes, and short-term stress can all affect leaf colour. The key is whether the change is isolated and temporary or whether it keeps returning, spreading, or appearing with weaker growth.
