Dead Palm Tree Signs: When a Palm Is Past Saving
A palm with brown fronds, weak new growth, or a thinning crown can look dead long before its condition is clear. Older fronds naturally decline, and temporary stress can also affect the canopy, so a few changes around the outside of the crown do not always mean the palm has reached the end of its life.
The clearest signs of a dead palm tree usually appear around the newest growth and central crown. When fresh fronds stop emerging, the spear collapses, or the crown loses all active growth, the palm may no longer be able to recover. Checking where the decline has started helps separate a stressed palm from one that may need palm tree removal.
